Our very own Co-Founder and Chief Operator, Given Johnson, recently gave an interview to the Medium/Authority Magazine to share his story on the challenges, lessons and successes in starting lost range.®.
No small business is easy. It is a constant ebb and flow of successes and failures. Having the grit to dig in and learn from your mistakes, listening to your peers, and growing can enable you to reap the biggest rewards.
Given Johnson is the Co-Founder and Chief Operator of lost range®, a brand of premium, small-batch CBD products handmade in the mountains of Steamboat Springs, CO. His passion for horticulture, extraction, science, and nature is what led him to begin exploring the idea of starting his own CBD company more than two decades ago.
Thank you so much for doing this with us! Can you share with us the story about what brought you to this specific career path?
I was brought to the CBD space after connecting with a friend who shared that he was interested in helping fund a company. We looked into legal cannabis opportunities but realized that the hemp market was growing extremely fast as well. Hemp has fewer barriers to entry — it’s easier to get a facility and investment.
In November 2018, we decided to focus our product on CBD muscle and joint rubs, a space with much less red tape. This was a way for us to remain in the cannabis industry while leveraging our expertise in a way that was not going to bring a vast amount of debt.
Can you share the most interesting story that happened to you since you began leading your company? Can you tell us what lesson you learned from that?
Some of the most interesting stories and lessons are around proving myself wrong....
